PRE TOUR - IBBS
From 30th of September to 5th of October 2008
30th SEPTEMBER - PALERMO
Arrival at PALERMO airport. Meeting with the tour leader and transfer by bus
to the hotel; check-in, dinner and overnight.
1st OCTOBER- PALERMO - MONREALE
Breakfast at the hotel; the morning will be dedicated to discover Palermo,
the capital of Sicily, which is full of remains of ancient civilizations such as
Byzantine, Arabian and Normans. During the excursion we will visit the "Royal
Palace" with the Palatina Chapel, the beautiful Cathedral in Norman style,
Quattro Canti square, Massimo theatre, Pretoria square with its beautiful
fountain in Baroque style; lunch at the hotel; in the afternoon, the tour will
go on with the visit the cathedral of Monreale which is considered the highest
example of Normans architecture; Return at the hotel dinner and overnight.
2nd OCTOBER - PALERMO - AGRIGENTO (ERICE - SEGESTA - SELINUNTE)
Breakast at the hotel and departure for Erice, a small, medieval village,
located on the top of the San Giuliano hill, where we will enjoy of a fantastic
view over the Egadi islands. Visit of the historical small centre and continue
for Segesta where we can admire the Doric temple; lunch at the restaurant; in
the afternoon, on the road to Agrigento, we will stop in Selinunte to visit one
of the most important archaeological Park of Europe; in the evening we will rich
AGRIGENTO. Check in at the hotel, dinner and overnight; after dinner, we will
enjoy a fantastic panoramic tour of the Valley of the Temples by bus. Return to
the hotel and overnight
3rd OCTOBER DAY - AGRIGENTO - SIRACUSA (AGRIGENTO - PIAZZA ARMERINA)
Breakfast at the hotel. The morning will be consecrated to the visit of the
Temple Valley one of the most impressive and important sites of Greek
civilization in the Mediterranean. Visit the Temple of Hercules, the Temple of
Juno, the Temple of Castor and Pollux as well as the Temple of Concord.
Departure for Piazza Armerina, an old village located in the heart of Sicily,
after a taste lunch at the restaurant we will visit Villa Romana del Casale, a
spectacular Roman country villa of the 3rd century, famous for its precious
mosaics. In the late afternoon we will reach Siracusa area on the east coast of
Sicily. Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight.
4th OCTOBER - SIRACUSA (SIRACUSA-NOTO)
Breakfast at the hotel; we will dedicate our day to the splendid town of
Siracusa, which during the Greek Age was one of the more powerful cities in
Sicily. We will visit the archaeological zone: the Greek Theatre, the Roman
Amphitheatre, the Ear of Dyonisus and the Latomie. Afterwards, we will walk
through the historical center to Ortigia Island to admire the Cathedral, the
Aretusa fountain and the ancient streets. Lunch at the restaurant; in the
afternoon we will depart for Noto, a wonderful baroque town protected by UNESCO
as a World Heritage Site l. In the evening return to the hotel in Siracusa area,
dinner and overnight.
5th OCTOBER - TAORMINA AREA (ETNA - TAORMINA)
Breakfast at the hotel; in the morning we will depart for an excursion to
Mt. Etna, 1.900 m. above sea level, where it will be possible to visit the
small, inactive Silvestri craters. Lunch at the restaurant. In the afternoon we
will continue to Taormina, a small medieval village, situated on a rocky plateau
on the slopes of the steeply dropping Monte Tauro, dominating the Ionian coast
from Capo Sant'Andrea to Capo Taormina. During our strolled among the small
streets of the village we will admire the Greek theatre, the 2nd largest
classical theatre in Sicily and the beautiful Palazzo Corvaja. Transfer to the
hotel Capo dei Greci; end of the services.
